Baroque art was easily interpreted in order to produce drama and tension. This period have different sculptures, architectures and paintings, but the most striking part in this era was their style in exaggeration of their artwork.Baroque art doesn't have much difference with Christian and Renaissance art, because, all of them encouraged Roman Catholic Church which had decided at the time of the council of Trent. The appeal of Baroque style turned consciously from the witty, intellectual qualities of 16th century Mannerist art to a visceral appeal aimed at the senses. In paintings Baroque gestures are broader than Mannerist gestures: less
ambiguous, less arcane and mysterious, more like the stage gestures of opera a major Baroque art form. Their poses depend on the tension within the figures. We can recall that in Renaissance art, the poses of their subjects depict realism where in every gestures have their own meaning and symbolism, but here in Baroque period, it depends on the counterpoise.
What do we have in present in terms of art? Does the Baroque art has something to do with what we have in this time? For my opinion, of course. A defining statement of what Baroque signifies in painting is provided by the series of paintings and we may comprehend that in present time, there are still some type of paintings that we may see just like what we used to have during the late Baroque period. The other Baroque innovation in worldly interiors was the state
apartment, a sequence of increasingly rich interiors that culminated in a
presence chamber or throne room or a state bedroom. With that statement, we may also comprehend that designs in some hotels may strike a Baroque style.
Baroque actually expressed new values. For myself, I don't think I already knew Baroque art that much, which gave me a reason not to relate my work of art with it.But by simply knowing what Baroque's background was, I'm already starting to create ideas that I may add in my style in doing artworks. Of course, during this present time, I may not be able to do it so, but as time will pass, I know for a fact that I will be able to accommodate myself the needs of the progression in my artistic style.

The so-called "rebirth"
What is
renaissance? What is rebirth? What is humanism? Does it really matters whether
we know them or not? --- It does matter. Renaissance is the era where in great
painters started blooming. Besides, it also has major commissioners like the
Medici family, Pope Julius II, King Henry VIII and Queen Catherine. Classicism
also started in this era; it is the style of classical art where human
structure was balanced, proportion and has perfection. Lots of artworks from
this period have their significance, even the ordinary illustrations that can
be seen in their creations means something that was beyond on how the viewers
see it.
The
three great masters that I have mentioned earlier were Leonardo da Vinci,
Raphael Sanzio and Michelangelo Buonarotti . Da Vinci was named as the
“Greatest painter of all time” and as the “Renaissance Man”. One of his
greatest creations was the “Mona Lisa”. The portrait of “Mona Lisa” was his
controversial painting because of the mystery behind the true identity of the
woman that he painted. Raphael Sanzio
was also a painter in the Renaissance period, he created the “School Of Athens”
which symbolizes tons of meaning. But unfortunately, Sanzio died early at the
age of 37 and he left his creations behind. Michelangelo Buonarotti created the
“Pieta and the Agony and ecstasy” which symbolizes breath an depth, he also
created the painting that can be found in the “Ceiling of the Sistine Chapel”.
Mannerism
or the second hand art was also practiced in this period where in artworks that
was created by Jacopo Pontomo was exerted. Renaissance is healthy in terms of
styles, because of having the classicism and mannerism. Lots of artists also
practiced the Tintoretto or the love of color with linear approach. I think
from this era, what I have acquired was their mannerism, why? Because there are
times when I created illustrations, I was trying to portray the ideas from what
I have already seen in the past artworks. There was also the time I tried to
copy certain artworks with my own version and perception of the subject matter.
For an additional statement about Renaissance; in Florence, there was a certain
place called “The Bargello” where in glorious sculptures were kept.

Christian art and stuff
What's with Christian Art?
Christian art took place after the classical art where in nudity started. As time goes by, artists developed new skills and ideas in creating artworks like sculptures, paintings and architectures. To begin with; Christian art is all about Jesus and Christianity itself. Artworks from this period can be found in most churches located in different places where people practiced the tradition of Christian culture. But always keep in mind that their artworks were not just about Jesus Christ but also about the churches and basilicas they have. There are 3 different infrastructures for the place of their worship namely the churches, cathedrals and basilicas. But what are the differences between them? --- Cathedrals are those where bishop's throne can be found, churches are lead by priests while the basilicas are dedicated or named after their saints. Way back then, Christianity was not allowed for their religion, so they came up and built a place where they can hid their artworks from their enemies. They built catacombs or the underground graveyards that served as their hiding place for them and even for their artworks depicting Christianity. But as Constantine, their ruler, accepted their religion, churches were built freely and extravagantly exposed, because of their thirst for freedom, Christians decided to built churches expensively and creatively they even painted murals showing some scenes happened from the Bible. One good example of an artwork of this kind was the Sarcophagus which was made up of marble with carvings of events from the old testament to the new testament of the holy Bible.
In the early Middle Ages, there comes the Islamic art, where in people came up with a religion called "Islam" which means submission to God's will. Muslims called their Bible Koran and their leader of prayer as "Imams". They also believed that sculptures are of Satan's work so they don't believe in saints and gods but Allah. In Romanesque art, there are four major evangelists that mostly appear in their artworks namely St. Mark (lion), St. Luke (bull), St. Matthew (man), and St. John (eagle). The term "Romanesque" refers to a long range of styles from the regional variants in Western Europe. Because of the relative prosperity of Christianity, there was an enormous serge in building churches, cathedrals and monasteries. They also contributed to a revival of architectural sculpture and the ornamentation of Christian buildings. Besides, this era has so much architectures with different form of artistic styles that one can appreciate much.
Christian art is the third era where in artists focused on the scenes happened on the Bible. It showed that people spent so much time in order to come up with great artworks to acknowledge and give worship to God. From my own experiences, I think I haven't done any kind of art that focused on religion except for a fact that I created homework back in my high school days that tackles about the importance of being a God-fearing individual. Maybe in the present, Christian art hasn't affected me in terms of doing illustrations but at least now I can somehow adapt ideas that I have learned about the different styles and perceptions of the artists that contributed lots of artworks from this era.Now that I'm quite familiar with the Christian artworks such as their churches, basilicas, monasteries, sculptures and their paintings, I can now tell myself that every people has different beliefs that they practiced on their daily living and the past civilization has something to do with the style of art that we have in the modern time.

Let's Start From the Beginning
Ancient Vs. Classical
Art for
me is like life, it’s a cycle and it evolves through time. It all began on the
early civilizations happened thousands of years ago. People strive to live and
discover new things and new ways of living. They started to seek for shelters
to keep them warm, they work hard to feed themselves and they live their lives
just how they want to. In Ancient art, there are 3 eras which are the
Paleolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic. Each era has its own contributions and
evolutions. Weather affects the people and how they live, at first, as the ice
glaciers melt it gets colder that is why people look for places where they can
live with enough heat that may warm them. As time goes by they learned to
migrate and change their locations for better sustenance of their daily
necessities. Naturalism was practiced by the artists from the ancient art while
it’s realistic for the classical. Ancient has the Sumer, Akkad, Babylonia,
Assyria and Persia while the Classical has the Greek and Roman.
Ancient
artists sculpts, paint and built architectures for their gods and soldiers,
they also used the animals around them as their subject matter. They have idols
and places for the deceased and they also have sculptures for their warriors
and created their own form of writing. Babylonia, for instance created their
law which was called as the “code of Hammurabi” that served as one of their
greatest contributions in art. Ancient art also has the Ziggurat that was built
by the Sumerian and the pyramids by the Egyptians. While in the Classical art,
there comes the Greek and Roman art. They don’t have much difference in terms
of art because Roman art come up a new idea from the ideas of the Greek art.
Greek and Roman artists practiced realism that can be seen from their artworks,
and most of their artworks are sculptures of nude figures of people. Why nude?
Because it is believed that nudity is the costume used by an artists to portray
emotions. Greek has 3 different styles in terms of architecture: the first one
is the earliest and simplest style which is called Doric, the second one is the
Ionic or smaller temples and the Corinthian which is not widely used by the
Greek but it is beautiful as usual. The only difference between Roman art and
Greek art is their subject matter, for the Roman is realistic figures of people
and anything that can be seen in reality while in Greek art is their gods which
they prefer making one from bronze.
Ancient
vs. classical, actually I admire both of them, why? Because they’re all part of
the evolution of art and they’re just the beginning, there are still more eras
that we will encounter few weeks from now. From simply knowing the different
artworks from ancient to classical made me feel different, I can now
distinguish the difference and the styles of the architectures that I have
seen, unlike before I can’t even recognize and appreciate the styles of any
artworks that I’m seeing. I’m also thankful to the artists from these eras
because they come up with wonderful ideas. From Prehistoric to Hellenistic, it
made no difference, from then up to the present, it only shows that people are
creative even thousands or millions of years have passed. Art as their passion
that triggers their imagination.

What will it be?
Realistic art and Art as alteration is different from each other.
In the aspect of the way they were created and in the way how they were being interpreted.
Realistic art is a hard thing to do, because if I will be instructed to create realistic
art especially human figures in a realistic way, it will be a big pain in my
head. While on the other hand, art as alteration is the way how the artist
interpret a certain subject which was most of the time is unrealistic. Uncommon
figures, exaggerated portions and fantasy images or beyond reality
interpretations simply explains and describes art as alteration. At the same
time, it will be easier for an artist to create such thing compared to that
Realistic art which conveys things that literally how they appear on the human’s
vision. And I have read that, in general, realists render everyday characters,
situations, dilemmas, and objects, all in a "true-to-life" manner.
Realists tend to discard theatrical drama, lofty subjects and classical forms
of art in favor of commonplace themes. How about the definition for art as
alteration? ---well, images that appear in a different manner simply explain
how it really looks like.
I’m only able to draw common illustrations, because the way I make
them is quite simple than the other people that I know who are also fond of
art. Art gives color to the human eye and art can be seen almost everywhere. Art
is not just about the pleasant appearance but it is also about the value given
by the artist just to create such work. At this moment, I’m still confused
whether my artwork is more of realistic, impressionist or even distorted.
During my spare time, I draw anime which is not realistic, so I think I am not
an artist who practices realism, but of course sometimes I try drawing stuff
that is real. Can I be considered as an artist who creates distorted art? Hmm---
this is really confusing but I think I will prefer art as alteration above all,
because with it, I can freely create my own illustration with my ideas and
perceptions about it. But of course I also want to be a realistic artist one day who can create realistic strokes, proper shading and line combinations.I talk less, I am quiet most of the time, so sometimes
when I am alone or don’t feel to talk with someone, I get a paper and a pen and
draw things. But it annoys me every time I want to draw something but I can’t,
simply because I really don’t know how.
Artists are humans, who have emotions and perceptions, which also
have freedom to do what he wanted to do as long as he never hurt anybody.
Artists interpret their feelings through their paintings, sculptures or even
architectures. But everything and everybody is able to change, if a certain
person shifted his belief from one to another, one should accept it. I have learned
that way back then; there are some artists who shifted from a realistic artist
to an abstract expressionist due to his experiences in life. For now, I’ll continue
searching for my own craft, because I know that I still lack knowledge about
art and how to appreciate it well. Whether it is a realistic art, Art as
alteration or distorted art, it doesn’t really matters because all I know, what
I’m doing is an art, and what I am about to do is to go deeper through art.

"ooh---my art"
Art- It is a creation out of images and illustrations. It is something which is beyond the imagination of an artist. But art is not only about the visual art itself, but is also in music, dance and film. I am not a professional artist but I love creating artworks through my imagination. I used to create my own characters and even my own comic books back in my elementary and even in my high school days. I even competed in some contests in my school where simply knowing art makes a huge difference. Impromptu art- From the word "impromptu" I think it has something to do with making art on the spot. something that was made with less readiness, enough skills and ideas in order to cope up with a certain artwork. Creating art with no preparations like complete materials or even a bit of idea about the theme of your artwork is very hard to succeed into. Readiness is also a virtue, it is a strength of oneself.
Creating an impromptu art is a challenge for everyone. Why? because, sometimes it's hard for people to create something perfectly without enough preparations given for it, but on the other hand, creating an impromptu art is also a God-given talent. We all know that not all humans were blessed with a wide imagination and a flexible mind to be called artistic. There are people who can sing but cannot draw, while there are also people who cannot sing but can draw. People may experience creating impromptu art during class or working hours. Students like me, usually encounters this moment during art class. I think I already experienced creating an impromptu art, I think it happens every time my teacher instructed us to create illustration about a certain topic on the spot. I used to be a journalist, a feature writer but I was once placed as an editorial cartoonist and a comic strip illustrator for our school paper when I was in high school. As I have remembered, my co- journalist told me to illustrate and create a comic strip which is about anything that usually happens in school, and as I started sliding my pencil on a piece of paper, my imagination widen and I was already creating an impromptu art.
Creativity--- every one has it but with different levels. Artist--- anyone can be an artist if he desires and aims for it. Art--- it can be seen everywhere, one should value and appreciate everything that surrounds him, because most things that surrounds him came from art. Impromptu art--- a work of art created without enough preparations but then, the result is still good and even perfect. Creating one gives so much pleasure, because simply seeing the result gives a relief in the viewer specially if the viewer is the creator of it. It's nice to create things specially with full effort and heart, because even when you're not well prepared, if you really love whatever you're doing, you can handle things swiftly and you can finally say that "ooh---my art".
