What is
renaissance? What is rebirth? What is humanism? Does it really matters whether
we know them or not? --- It does matter. Renaissance is the era where in great
painters started blooming. Besides, it also has major commissioners like the
Medici family, Pope Julius II, King Henry VIII and Queen Catherine. Classicism
also started in this era; it is the style of classical art where human
structure was balanced, proportion and has perfection. Lots of artworks from
this period have their significance, even the ordinary illustrations that can
be seen in their creations means something that was beyond on how the viewers
see it.
The
three great masters that I have mentioned earlier were Leonardo da Vinci,
Raphael Sanzio and Michelangelo Buonarotti . Da Vinci was named as the
“Greatest painter of all time” and as the “Renaissance Man”. One of his
greatest creations was the “Mona Lisa”. The portrait of “Mona Lisa” was his
controversial painting because of the mystery behind the true identity of the
woman that he painted. Raphael Sanzio
was also a painter in the Renaissance period, he created the “School Of Athens”
which symbolizes tons of meaning. But unfortunately, Sanzio died early at the
age of 37 and he left his creations behind. Michelangelo Buonarotti created the
“Pieta and the Agony and ecstasy” which symbolizes breath an depth, he also
created the painting that can be found in the “Ceiling of the Sistine Chapel”.
Mannerism
or the second hand art was also practiced in this period where in artworks that
was created by Jacopo Pontomo was exerted. Renaissance is healthy in terms of
styles, because of having the classicism and mannerism. Lots of artists also
practiced the Tintoretto or the love of color with linear approach. I think
from this era, what I have acquired was their mannerism, why? Because there are
times when I created illustrations, I was trying to portray the ideas from what
I have already seen in the past artworks. There was also the time I tried to
copy certain artworks with my own version and perception of the subject matter.
For an additional statement about Renaissance; in Florence, there was a certain
place called “The Bargello” where in glorious sculptures were kept.
